Dear Enthusiasts,

With this being the RREC's diamond jubilee year, it would seem the perfect opportunity to reflect on matters past. present and future. It is often said that we should attract more youngsters to the Club because they are supposedly less interested in our cars. This may be so, but the fact is that a Rolls-Royce or Bentley motor car epitomises a way of life, something you grow into rather than have forced upon you. It happened to me - as you'll be able to read herein - and I am sure it happened to a number of you.

The great thing is that, once you're ready for it, you're ready for a great many other things that go with Rolls-Royce or Bentley ownership.

Whether that is quality clothing, a unique watch or writing instrument, a beautifully crafted piece for your home, or simply the holiday experience of a lifetime, the pleasure derived from something rare and exceptional is quite unsurpassed and a natural fit for those who appreciate that "the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten" (FH Royce)

So, the Club's Publications Team, in collaboration with publisher St James's House, has endeavoured yet again to deliver precisely that. In the pages that follow, Roy Brooks

chronicles his memories of the Club's first Section and Eliot Levin offers an insight into his write-up of our late President Eric Barrass's magnum opus The Rolls-Royce Armoured Car

- a fitting tribute to 110 years of AX201, the car that transformed Rolls-Royce into a household name for excellence. In addition, David Towers sheds light on the remarkable engineer that was WO Bentley
