is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2023/24 yearbook. In this edition, we celebrate 20 years of Rolls-Royce production at the company's impressive Goodwood facility - the birthplace of some of the most beautiful luxury motor cars of the modern era. In addition to producing such automotive wonders, the manufacturing plant employs more than 3,000 people and makes a significant contribution to UK plc.

The world of cars is becoming increasingly electric - we see more and more battery-powered vehicles on our streets. But naturally the team at Goodwood do things a little differently, as the launch of its newest "ghostly" motor car goes to show. Charles Rolls was impressed by the smoothness and quietness of the early Henry Royce cars, so it is unsurprising that the 40/50hp became known as the Silver Ghost - a theme followed by Phantom, Wraith, Shadow and Spirit.

We now welcome Spectre into the pantheon of Rolls-Royce names. The company can still lay claim to the title of "best car in the world" if the reviews I have read are anything to go by.

I look forward to experiencing this tour de force of engineering for myself, and I'm sure that Sir Henry Royce would have approved. Royce, of course, started out as an electrical engineer and it was he who invented the bayonet electric lamp connector - just one of his many significant achievements. The application of advanced technology to take a quantum step in luxury car design is true to his philosophy of innovation and quest for "perfection".

It has also been a notable year for Bentley. We have been celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Derby Bentley and 20 years of the Continental GT; and the marque's new Heritage Collection at Crewe, featured within these pages, provides a suitable home for the company's glories of yesteryear. We've also focused on the electrification of a classic of the past - an

"upcycled", battery-powered Bentley Continental S2 - which will no doubt split the critics but is a development that can't be ignored.

I hope you enjoy reading the fascinating stories contained within this book, and would like to thank the writers, contributors and publisher St James's House for producing such a superb publication.
