In commending the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club 2012 Yearbook to you, I never cease to be amazed by the skill of our volunteer contributors. We should not forget the hours of background research and depth of collective knowledge which goes into their articles. It is an expression of their enthusiasm; the same enthusiasm members display for all aspects of our Club life: concours, rallying, restoration, maintenance and history as well as the simple pleasure of ownership and driving. The Club embraces these groups of like-minded people and provides an enviable social environment for them, where they can share and enjoy their passion. Thank you for your enthusiasm.

2011 was a notable year for us, yet the rich heritage and history of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars make every year special, with endless opportunities for celebration. Groups of members throughout Great Britain and across the world are already planning far ahead.

Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars encapsulate both nostalgia and innovation: as we look forward to the commemorative Alpine Rally in 2013 we are already anticipating the use of electric power in a Rolls-Royce model and diesel engines in Bentleys. These displays of technical excellence are in keeping with the tradition of Sir Henry Royce and W O Bentley. The companies these two innovators created continue to push the boundaries, without sacrificing the style and good taste which was their hallmark.

It was a great honour for the Club to present His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh with a replica of the first Spirit of Ecstasy Rolls-Royce mascot at Windsor Castle in 2011. The work of Club member Professor Ken Brittan, it commemorated the centenary of our silver lady.

His interest in the history of that iconic statuette has inspired others to explore the wider works of its creator - the accomplished sculptor, Charles Sykes. The Charles Sykes story proves the enduring appeal of the romance, style and exquisite taste that to this day characterise our Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars.

Our thanks to the contributors to this Yearbook who continue to fuel our members' passion for these great cars.
